Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO, Makes People “Sad”

On Wednesday Steve Jobs announced that he is stepping down as Apple’s CEO. News of his decision spread quickly. As of Thursday morning Jobs was being mentioned every .065 seconds and spurred over one million conversations in the last two days.

Sentiment around Jobs’ announcement did have a negative tone as consumers and analysts alike wondered if Apple would be the same without him. In addition, many people said they were “sad” about Jobs leaving as that word appeared in over 20,000 related posts.

Meanwhile, Tim Cook, Apple’s new CEO and former COO is garnering buzz, albeit not at the same rate as Jobs; in the last two days almost 300,000 posts have mentioned Cook.

For the most part, reactions to Cook’s appointment have been positive as most people believe he is the right person for the job. From August 24-August 25 sentiment for Cook was 78% positive.
