Iced Tea War Heats Up

Recent data shows that Lipton and Arizona are neck and neck in the iced tea category. According to Beverage Digest—which bases its calculations on take home volume data—Arizona has a 39% share of the category, while Lipton has a 34.8% market share. In addition, SymphonyIRI Group reports that year-to-date, sales of Arizona brands have reached $595 million, while Lipton’s sales are at $559 million.

So who is winning the buzz war? Our Social Radar search reveals that that race is very close as well. Since the beginning of the year, Arizona’s online share of voice has been 0.00011%, while Lipton’s has reached 0.00010%.

Helping drive online chatter for Lipton is the brand’s Super Bowl commercial featuring Eminem and its ads with actor Hugh Jackman.

Meanwhile, Arizona’s buzz is much less event driven. Instead, most of the posts are consumers saying they are drinking the brand’s iced teas. In fact, taste is the leading topic category for Arizona, while price is tops for Lipton.
